The Case for Trays.

Here’s the deal: I always thought trays were decorative, pretty but not necessarily used for function. But after a variety of experiences recently, I am making the case for trays. They are more than functional and you should consider getting yourself one for the following reasons.

a) They keep things organized. You may have seen yesterday how we keep all off coffee tables on the tray. It’s just not feasible to not have odds and ends on a coffee table but put them on a tray and things look organized.livingroom2

b) They make it easier to clean areas. I just pick up the tray on the coffee table and spray my glass cleaner. On my vanity, where I have a tray for my makeup, I pick up and wipe. It’s that easy.

c) They are mobile. I love using a tray for my make up because let’s say I want to get ready in front of the television or MK and I want to get ready while we catch up on like. I just carry my tray to the living room and when I am done, I carry it back…without trying to balance all my makeup and tubes and brushes in my hands.

c) They are useful. I make lunch in the kitchen and use a tray to carry it all to the living room where I can eat in front of the tv like a civilized human.

Here are my tray picks:

One: Acrylic Tray (Target)

This is the tray that had me falling in love with trays. I have one in my room that holds my makeup as you can see above. There is another on the coffee table (as you can see above). And another in the office which you’ll see someday. You can’t beat the price and I love clear and clean look of them. #TargetDoesItAgain

Two: White Tray with Gold Leaf (Etsy)

This is perfect if you want the tray to be a centerpiece for your table, your vanity, or your kitchen (or wherever else you may find a place for a tray…like a guest bed!). It’s a showstopper for sure.

Three: Marble Tray (Target)

I love that this is round but also has handles and we all know I am into faux marble. I mean, I would go for real marble but money, you know. This would be gorgeous with candles on it. You could also use it as a great cheese tray too.

Four: Bamboo Criss-Cross Tray (Target)

I used a similar tray to this one in San Francisco. It was a centerpiece to the glam going on around it. I filled it with coffee table books and candles. And I loved it.

Five: Wood Serving Tray (Etsy)

I love that this is rustic but also modern. You could put this anywhere and it would look great. Who wants to serve me breakfast on this though?

Six: Vintage Silver Tray (Etsy)

I have one similar to this that I need to dig out of a box. I like to display my perfume on it.

Seven: Rustic Industrial Tray (Etsy)

This is more on the rustic side and I can see it on a guest bed with a book and a welcome note. I love that it feels both industrial and rustic and that it lays flat so that the handles are unique. It’s a great piece.

What do you think? Have I made the case for trays?

New Apartment Living Room Reveal.

So as I may have mentioned 2,345 times, I moved. But you don’t know the full story. MK, my current roommate, had a roommate before me that needed out of the lease three months early. This was great for me because I needed to move. So I started packing and slowly moving stuff over but then the other roommates situation fell through. I panicked, obviously. This back and forth happened a few times before the other roommate suggested I still move in for the last three months of their lease and live in the dining room (it is a spacious two bedroom). Ultimately, her situation ended up kind of working out so I did get her room but her things still live her and she is slowly moving out. As

Ultimately, her situation ended up kind of working out so I did get her room but her things still live here and she is slowly moving out. As her things are moved out, mine are moved into place which had a different vibe than hers. MK and I have a similar vibe so it has been working out well (when she moved in, she moved in to the old roomie’s stuff) and I want to show you the living room which is the most finished (I would say it is at 95%).

We like clean lives, open spaces, and expensive things that we either don’t pay full price for or things from Target that look expensive. I would say that is our aesthetic in this space. Also, bikes (you’ll see).

Here’s the before:livingroombefore

And here is the after:livingroom6You may recognize my little gray couch and the poufs:livingroom5How cool is that gramophone? You put your iPhone in it. The couch and the pillows are from Homegoods. The white side table is from Target, as is the lamp on the other side of the table (we love the lamps because they look so expensive). The poufs are One King’s Lane and the throw is West Elm. Most of this, I owned in my previous apartment. As for the other side table, more on that to come.

Speaking of stuff from my old apartment, you’ll recognize this setup in a different order (ikea, baby!):livingroom1You may notice the bikes which we can ride inside thanks to this trainer and watch The Mindy Project at the same time. I kind of love them because they are decorations in and of themselves. Also, my bike is cream, not yellow. I am very sensitive to this. Ha.livingroomSee how pretty they are? And functional for working out! They also go great with the artwork from MK’s sister. She is seriously amazing. Her etsy shop is on hiatus but I can’t wait to feature her here and for now you can find her on IG. Speaking of, we are going to add two more of her paintings to that wall (the one that is up there now will go in the middle and it will be a series).livingroom4On the opposite wall, above my gray couch, we will be getting a mirror so that the art will reflect and also this huge room will appear even bigger. The artwork and the mirror are the only two things left to do in this apartment.

That floor lamp matches the other table lamps and is also from Target.

One of the greatest finds was our coffee table which is actually nesting tables which we un-nested and use the babies as side tables. MK got this Safavieh set up for super cheap…and when we went to pick it up (she needed muscle), this wealthy family was also like, “Hey, do you need rugs?” to which we said, “Yes, fancy people we would love free rugs” (those are in other parts of the apartment). The rug in this room was given to MK from her parents when they no longer needed it. I didn’t know if I would love it but now I do! On to, the coffee table. livingroom2I think we have truly transformed this room into a place that is light and bright. We are both creatives so we spend time in here not just watching tv but also working (the office/dining room is in process but soon, soon it will be ready).

What do you think? Remember this is a rental so we had to be creative in order to transform it?

Loving and Coveting in February.

It may be the end of the month (thanks to the extra day a leap year gives us) but this is what I am loving and coveting in February. Some are things I have gotten and some are things I wish I had. Either way, let’s be honest, I have great taste (haha). I’m just so funny on Mondays.

Copper String Lights

String lights? Yes, please. In the shape of paper cranes? Uh, yes. In the color copper? Well, it’s more like rose gold so definitely.

Hourglass Accent Table

Target calls this copper. I call it rose gold and I saw it in person. Since I am on the hunt for side tables in the office where we, like I said, are looking to bring in rose gold, these are a definite option. After seeing them in person I am even more sure they are on point.

Window Daybed

Who got this West Elm Daybed on Craig’s list aka for a lot less money? My roommate. You thought I was going to say me but ha! No. The good thing is that it lives in the shared space of the office which name indicates it is shared. I’m pumped that we have an extra space to sit when working back there and also that guests have a bed of their own. Plus it is seriously fab looking.

Dusty Blush Luster Velvet Pillow Cover

West Elm, what up? In the office, where the daybed we use as a sofa/bed lives, we want to bring in rosegold and blush colors based on our desk vibes (you’ll see the office soon…after the front room/living room and the completion of my bedroom but you’ll see it). I love West Elm’s pillow covers. And be sure to give them your email address so you get 15% off. What?!

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick

To be fair, I got three of these lipsticks for free in an Influenster Box (Pepper, Gazpacho, Berryroot) and I am in love. I didn’t have to blog about them at all so know that this is true. Bite Beauty lippies are made from edible oils. I love the colors and it is creamy and long lasting and I just feel lucky I got them for free. But dare I say this may be the brand I go to for lipstick over MAC? I don’t know who I am right now.

Cyclops Magneto Bike Trainer

If you don’t know what this is, that’s cool because I didn’t until recently. It lets you ride your bike inside and since I got a bike for my birthday (more on this in another post to come…it’s true love), this is great. It doesn’t make a lot of noise and I can work out no matter the weather. I honestly don’t know why people buy super expensive exercise equipment now that I know about this. I ride and watch my favorite tv shows on Hulu and it’s fab. Seriously!

Mobile Charger

One day this month the whole block lost power for eight hours during the day and into the night. It was like living on the frontier and as my phone slowly ran out of batteries just as I needed a flashlight, I saw the intelligence in having one of these. Instead, we went in my roommate’s car and listened to You’ve Got Mail on audio because the screen didn’t work as the phones charged. This mobile charger also happens to be super cute.

“Hello” Doormat

I bought this. I passed it and I said, “That’s super cute” and my roommate admitted she almost bought it last time she was at Target. The price was right since my roomie felt like this was a bit more welcoming than my DIY “Lose the Shoes Mat” (to be fair, when I made it, I had white carpet, which I do not have any longer).

What are you loving and coveting in February?

Currently Crushing: Over Dyed Persian Rugs.

Ever since I saw Mindy Kaling on the floor of her office like the hot mess that she is on The Mindy Project, I have been crushing on the over dyed Persian rug look. In typical Mindy fashion, hers was a bright hot pink which I love and adored especially when I saw it in person.

No, but for real. Can you see it behind where we are sitting in the Yurt?

I am very excited to be in a Yurk with @jennifrank_ ! #influenceconf

A photo posted by Nina B. (@nbwearsflowers) on

Of course, here is Mindy. Gosh, I just love her (and her taste in rugs).girlcrushThe thing is, I didn’t think I would have the money for a rug because, hello. Rugs are expensive. Plus, nothing makes a room look smaller than a rug that is too small for it. I really wanted something with deep blues and teals and I found it but there was that price issue again. But then Bex told me about this one at Target that I have been obsessed with it since I got in on sale. Even normally priced, it’s still a really great deal. I can’t even express how much I love it to you guys except with a brief photo montage. These originally appeared on my Instagram (follow me!) so I will have to lay off the rug photos but isn’t she a beauty?tealrugIGI love gray and neutral ones as well. In fact, in the photo with the picture of all the rugs up above you can click around on the one that strikes your fancy. Or just below here there is an even wider array. I think they are fab. They are also in a variety of price ranges from Target to West Elm to Overstock to One King’s Lane and so you may just get lucky.

There are a million reasons I love this look in a room. Let’s start with the fact that it looks really dramatic when I lay on the floor and complain about my life like Mindy. But also, I love how it anchors the room and makes a big impact. In my room, everything else is neutral so the rug strikes just the right chord in a room that should be calm but reflect my bold personality too. Do I sound like I’m fancy or what?

I’ll leave you with a tidbit for making sure you buy the correct sized rug for a room. Every piece of furniture (every single piece of furniture) should be able to touch (as in sit on) part of the rug.

Faux Marble for the Win.

No doubt: marble is in. I think it has to do with how clean and luxurious it looks at the same time. And while I’d love to add some real marble to my life, it just isn’t in the cards at this point. Thankfully, the marble trend is so on point that the faux marble items look incredible at great prices (four of the five things I have my eye on are from Target!). Faux Marble for the Win, y’all!

One | Square Copper Tray with Marble Inlay

I love this one. I can imagine it on my coffee table with candles and flowers.

Two | Marble Computer Cover

I am all about protecting my computer (I am a little bit intense about it if you know me. Ha!) and the marble trend for Mac has been going on for some time. I can dig it.

Three | Wood and Marble Cheese Tray

I would lay out my current favorite cheese (this white cheddar I found by accident) and pour some wine and enjoy. I’d also take some killer Instagram photos with this (is this too much?). Honestly, I think I would leave it in the center of the kitchen table at all times.

Four | Copper and Round Marble Side Table

I love the look of this. I saw it in person and once again, I was so impressed with Target!

Five| Square Copper Tray with Marble Inlay

This is actually coming to live in the new apartment soon. It fits right up against the couch for the perfect perch for food or wine or a nice book but takes up minimal space in the room. Plus, it is so rich looking. Give me the heart eye emoji!
