Bringing Back: Snail Mail.

Screen Shot 2014-04-16 at 10.41.24 AMConfession: I love Snail Mail. I love sending it just as much as I love receiving it. Anyone else? There is just something so exciting and special about opening that mailbox and seeing something other than bills. Am I right? So I send Snail Mail because the idea of giving my loved ones that feeling is lovely. Also, I happen to love to write and also happen to be a sharpie aficionado.

This may look like a lot of Snail Mail items but I have been building an arsenal for awhile and I send it out regularly so it’s nice to have choices based on who I am writing. Plus, the card sets at Anthro are really the only things I can afford there besides the best candle in the world (the above cards are not all from Anthro; in fact, most aren’t. What do I look like? A millionaire?)

My mama taught me the importance of Thank You Notes and some of these are used for that. But my favorite Snail Mail is the “just because” kind: I was just thinking about you…Praying for you…Saw this verse and thought of you…Saw this in a magazine and it made me remember that time… Those types of things.

(and there may be a surprise for YOU at the end of this!)SONY DSCAren’t I sophisticated? Ha. This is from Anthro but it is Rifle Paper company about a year ago. This is something I save because I feel like I am back in time when I use it, writing a full length letter on beautiful stationary. I also feel Southern in a the best way. Or just pretty, like I am wearing a full skirt and using a fountain pen. Imagination much? 🙂 Today I would send this to my mom.

Dear Mommy,

I miss you so much. Despite my misgivings, (just like a mama is always going to worry about her girl, a girl is always going to worry about her mama) I am so proud of you and the way you have poured out your life for others. I shouldn’t be surprised because you are the type of woman who constantly thinks of others and puts them before herself. I want to be more like you and I am so fortunate that I have a woman, a mother, who can be such an example. But I do miss you. I loved when you visited and we went to museums and the farmer’s market and were so cultured. I felt so grown up. You (and Dad) do such a good job of supporting me but pushing me out of the nest to fly. I am always thinking and praying for you and also Granny and Papa. I am so proud of you. I am sorry I’m such a sassy daughter. I probably get that from the other side of the family 😉 I can’t wait to hug your neck. Just so you know, that is something people from the South say and this stationary makes me feel like I speak with drawl and wear full skirted sundresses to football games. Love you, NeenSONY DSCThis stationary is from SugarPaperLA, a major favorite of mine and it’s probably my spirit animal stationary. I don’t know what to tell you but leopard? I love thee. Gold leopard? I love thee even more. Don’t even tell me that this envelope would not make you grin upon opening.

Hey Lyd!

Girl, congratulations on your new addition! I can’t wait to squeeze everyone (gently). Obviously I picked this card for you because you and your sister (whom I adore) make fun of me and my leopard love and all my leopard pajamas you have seen over the years. No, I do not love leopard because I am Italian. Nor am I on Jersey Shore! (In case that was ever in contention.) Imagine my surprise when you sent me a leopard thank you note…Hmm. 🙂 I also feel the need to tell you that Jenna Lyons who basically runs J. Crew says that leopard is a neutral so you probably want to pass that on to your sister 🙂 Give kisses to everyone for me and I’ll see you soon, girl. And when I do, don’t make fun of the big words in this note. Also, I am in major need of some skin to skin. Love you, Lyd! Neens

SONY DSCI found these in a local store and there were fifty and I have almost used them up. They are great for anyone! But this one goes to someone special because she loves yellow.

Hi Sissy,

How are you? How is school? I can’t wait to visit you and watch Paw Patrol. And make cookies. And play with your princesses and your dinosaurs. You are the best sister in the whole wide world. I miss you, girlfriend. I love you, Baby. Ciao, NeenSONY DSCFinally, the homemade variety.SONY DSCI mean every word of it.

Who else loves Snail Mail?

One, Two, Three, Four, Five: Go.

As always, Thanks A. Liz AdventuresThe Good LifeCarolina Charm, and Hello!Happiness for hosting five on friday. five on friday

The novel. Dun. Dun. Dun.

I’ve written novel length stories before–actually a lot of times–since middle school. But each time has felt like practice. I don’t want to jinx anything but I am on the third chapter of something I’m really excited about. It just feels good to be excited about writing fiction again, to make my weird versions of a story boards, to build out these characters into full flesh and blood. Anyway, I am trying. And I sit at my desk while I write which is also a step in the write direction.

Speaking of writing…

I am a lover of black Moleskines but I found a new love. This is my second SugarPaperLA gold striped notebook and I love them. I am very particular. I just started doing Beth Moore’s “Breaking Free” (the updated version) for the second time in my life and it’s just as good as the first time. But I am a journaler at heart. That’s how I process a lot so I’ve been waiting and it came with an adorable handwritten note. They are a great brand and here are some of their cute valentine’s day cards as well. Skin Solutions

This Glow Tonic has been a cult favorite in the UK but I refused to spend the money on shipping. How happy was I when I found out they now have shipping in the US? I am excited to start using it. I am also considering starting to use the oil cleansing method. Does anyone know anything about this? Any personal experiences?SONY DSC

It’s my goal that next week I’ll be giving you a tour of my apartment. When I wrote this about organizing and asked for tips, you all complimented me on my decorating. Haha. It made my day. But as the purging project comes to a complete….or will somewhere around early next week. I live in a Studio but I have struggled to make the bathroom feel anything but cold and sterile. I’ve tried a lot of things but I’ll be looking for tips. The tiny kitchen also didn’t feel like my own but that has since changed. But that bathroom….I’ve got to figure it out. Also just to update you on the nightstand, I love, love, love it. But be heed this warning about mirrored furniture. It shows dust so quickly you have no idea.

Please read this article on addiction.

Yes, it is by Russell Brand (appearing in The Guardian) who has quite the reputation. But I found it through my high school English teacher’s facebook and it has been making the rounds for its candor, truth, and quality writing. Understanding the nature of addiction like this is incredibly important and this is a must read.

There’s my five. I can’t wait to catch up with you all.

How to Stuff them Stockings. (Gift Guide Part II)

Joining the link up with Cheers Y’all and Down with Dearmore’s…These all fit in a stocking…Promise! And here is the first gift guide…

  1. Giraffe Trinket Dish//$16//Anthropologie//Why it’s on the list: I admit I bought this little baby for myself. I couldn’t help it.  Giraffes are almost as cool as elephants (but not quite). It’s perfect for your rings and bracelets and little trinkets. And it makes a statement in your room. Instead of just flinging things on a dresser (me), fling them on this dish and keep everything looking fab.
  2. Sugar Kisses Mini Trio//$28//Fresh//Why it’s on the list: If you don’t know about Fresh’s sugar lip treatment, you are missing out. Nothing keeps my lips smooth and perfect like these little ones do. What I love is that, yes, there is one without color, but these have color so you can basically be popping your lip balm, looking fly, with ruby red lips. This is a great stocking stuffer for any girlfriend (or yourself).
  3. Lavish Luxe 10 piece set//$29.99//Sonia Kashuk at Target//Why it’s on the list: I am always on the lookout for quality brush sets. The thing is, they are always so dang expensive. This one isn’t though. And I love the gold touch. This brand at Target tends to be high quality so I could safely assume these are great brushes for an incredible price.
  4. 2013 Red Cup Ornament//$4.95//Starbucks//Why it’s on the list: Everyone freaks out when the red cups come out. Including myself. One day, I ordered a venti and they started to write my name on a white cup. “Do you have the holiday cups?” I asked. They told me they were all out for venti. “In that case, I’ll have a grande,” I told them. For many of us, these cups mark the beginning of the holiday season. Why not hang it on your tree? Perfect for the stocking.
  5. Gigantic Swiss Dot Tights//$25//Kate Spade//Why it’s on the list: I love these tights! I love these tights! Or are they stockings? Anywhoo, put them stockings in my stocking!
  6. I just want to drink coffee create stuff and sleep T-shirt//$18//Why it’s on the list:  …………… …………… I really think this shirt speaks for itself.
  7. Kate 2014 Desk Calendar in Rasberry//$52//SugarpaperLA//Why it’s on the list: I love this brand. It’s a little pricy but it comes with the stand and next year you can replace just the cards. I can tell you that Sugarpaper is extremely high quality. And pretty. Growing up, we always got a calendar in our stocking.
  8. Bow USB//$50//Kate Spade//Why it’s on the list: This is a bit extravagant but how cute? Techie is the new chic, baby!
  9. Waterproof Wireless Bluetooth Shower Speaker//$40//Why it’s on the list: Now you can jam in the shower to Beyonce all you want!
  10. Gold Lip Tease Mug//$25//Reiko Kaneko//Why it’s on the list: I love this mug. So creative and unusual. I love. I love. I love.
  11. Success is Not Easy iPhone Case 5 & 5s//$34//The Everygirl//Why it’s on the list: Again, here is a brand I love. Moreover, I love this iPhone case because it is a constant reminder of something important. (Right now, my iPhone case is a reminder of how much I love leopard print.) And of course, it’s gorgeous. Are you seeing a trend here?

Stuff those stockings!
